How To Format Your Medium Subtitles.

I feel like such an idiot so here’s a 3-step guide to help you avoid my mistake.

I am very new to Medium and I made a pivotal mistake, and I’m pretty sure some of my articles have been skipped over because of it. I 100% just assumed that changing the display title/subtitle was what added my subtitle in. It wasn’t until I posted around five articles that I realized it wasn’t working. I angrily stormed over to Google to figure out why they weren’t showing up. Turns out the display subtitle actually adds nothing to your base story if someone is viewing it on your account or in a publication.

Here is how to PROPERLY add a subtitle:

Step 1: Click the line right below your title, if you’re just starting your story it should say “Tell your story…” if not it will just be blank.

Step 2: Enter whatever subtitle you’re going to use, and then highlight it.

Step 3: Highlighting will bring up the text menu, click on the smaller T, this will gray out the text and automatically register it as a subtitle.

I hope this helped at least one person avoid my mistake. I felt unbelievably ignorant when I finally realized my screw up, but at least I caught it fairly early.
